What you're struggling with

Your story is woven from generations of resilience, sacrifice, and hope.

As a Latinx individual, you may carry not only your own struggles but also the unspoken burdens and dreams of those who came before you. Family, culture, and identity can be sources of pride and strength, but they can also carry weight—especially when expectations, societal pressures, or the challenges of navigating multiple worlds create inner conflict.

Add in living at the intersection of queerness and your ethnic identity, and this can feel like being pulled in opposite directions. For many Latinx folks, this weight manifests in a cycle of self-loathing, shame, and harsh inner criticism. The voice in your mind may tell you you’re not enough—not for your family, not for your community, not even for yourself.

What you're struggling with

The Expectation is Heavy.

Cultural messages about respect, sacrifice, and belonging may leave little room for you to explore your queerness without guilt or fear of rejection. You might carry the weight of the expectation to prioritize family above all else—while struggling to stay true to your authentic self.

This can lead to shame and self-doubt, as though you’re failing to live up to the roles others expect of you. You may feel like an outsider in queer spaces that don’t acknowledge your Latinx experience or vice versa. Over time, these pressures can amplify a harsh inner voice, leaving you questioning your worth and struggling to embrace who you are.

Why This Approach Works.

Intersections Matter.

Being Latinx is a beautiful and complex experience, filled with unique challenges and opportunities for growth. The resources we’ll use—Gestalt therapy, creative arts therapy, and somatic practices—work together to address your mind, body, and spirit.

Gestalt therapy helps you understand the roots of your inner dialogue and transform self-criticism into self-compassion. Creative arts therapy provides a way to express feelings that are too overwhelming or nuanced for words. Somatic practices help release the tension that shame and self-loathing create, offering a path to feeling more grounded and whole.

This approach honors the fullness of your identity—your cultural roots, your individuality, and your inherent worth.

What Therapy Looks Like With Me.

Therapy with me is rooted in cultural awareness and a deep respect for the intersection of identities you hold.

It’s not about fixing you, because you are not broken. It’s about creating a space where you can explore, heal, and grow in a way that feels true to you. Here’s what we might do together:

Challenging Cultural Narratives & Family Expectations:

Being Latinx is a beautiful and complex experience, filled with unique challenges and opportunities for growth.

We’ll examine the cultural and familial messages that have shaped your identity– beliefs about family roles, success, and belonging. Together, we’ll honor the ways these stories have supported you while gently challenging those who have contributed to shame or self-loathing.

Healing Shame Through Gestalt Therapy:

Gestalt therapy helps you understand the roots of your inner dialogue and transform self-criticism into self-compassion.

Many of the negative inner voices we carry are echoes of past experiences.Gestalt therapy allows us to interact with these voices in the present, helping you understand their origins and transform how they speak to you. You’ll learn how to respond to self-criticism with compassion and replace shame with self-acceptance.

Rediscovering Your Voice Through Creative Arts Therapy:

Creative arts therapy provides a way to express feelings that are too overwhelming or nuanced for words.

Sometimes, words aren’t enough to express the depth of your emotions. Creative arts therapy offers a way to explore your feelings through visioning, storytelling, or other artistic practices. You might journey to meet a visual representation of the shame you feel or collage an image of the self you want to nurture. These exercises can help you process complex emotions and connect with your authentic voice.

Releasing Tension Through Somatic Practices:

Somatic practices help release the tension created by shame and self-loathing, offering a path to feeling more grounded and whole.

Your body often holds onto the pain of self-loathing and shame—the clench of your jaw, the tightness in your chest, or the weight in your stomach. Through somatic practices, we’ll help you notice these sensations, release the tension they carry, and reconnect with a sense of grounding and safety in your body.

You’ve already put yourself on the right path to get there! Imagine a life where you feel aligned with your inner truth – where decisions flow from your intuition, not obligation.  Picture yourself stepping into sacred rituals that honor your life’s transitions, letting go of the patterns that weigh you down, and creating space for transformation. This work is not about escaping the challenges of life; it’s about meeting them with a sense of grounded magic and sacred presence.
