Expressive Eco Art Therapy for Emotional Healing | Kingston, NY & Nearby Areas

When words fall short, your hands remember.

Eco art therapy for tender souls, deep feelers, and spiritual seekers.

What is art therapy?

Eco Art Therapy is an embodied, creative way of working with what lives beneath words.

You’ve talked it out. Thought it through. But it still lives in your body. This work offers a different way in, one that uses image, sensation, symbol, and the natural world to help emotions move instead of staying stuck.

It’s not about performing or producing. It’s about creating space to feel, release, and reconnect through color, movement, nature, and symbol.

Most common signs you might benefit from art therapy

You’re carrying more than you can keep holding.

You’re processing a lot, grief, stress, transition, or something you can’t quite name. You’ve tried talking, journaling, analyzing. But nothing’s really moving.

For some, the stuckness shows up as a block. For others, it’s grief, identity shifts, or a sense of disconnection from yourself or the world around you. You know something needs to move, but instead, you feel frozen or overwhelmed.

Talking helps, but it doesn’t touch the root. Your system is asking for something deeper, something more embodied.

How do I know if I am ready for art therapy?

You’re not looking for more advice.  You’re looking for a different way in.

You may not know exactly what you’re feeling, only that your body is holding something that needs space to move.

You don’t need to be artistic. You don’t need to know what to make. You just need a little curiosity and a willingness to explore experience beyond words.

How we approach art therapy in Kingston and nearby areas

This isn’t traditional talk therapy, it’s body-based, creative, and grounded in the natural world.

  • 01 - You start with what your body is holding

We begin with sensations, images, and emotions that are already alive, the pressure, the tension, the inner noise.

  • 02 - We let the creative process do the talking

Through drawing, collage, or movement, your inner world takes shape. This isn’t about being good at art, it’s about giving stuck feelings a place to go.

  • 03 - We work with nature as a mirror and guide

Using natural objects, seasonal rhythms, or simple ritual, the earth becomes part of your process, helping you ground, reflect, and reconnect.

  • 04 - We gently meet the inner blocks

As expression opens, so do the patterns that keep you stuck, inner criticism, shutdown, overgiving. We meet these with compassion, not pressure.

  • 05 - We bring the work into your life

What you discover in session starts to shape how you speak, choose, and show up in your day-to-day life.

Hi, I’m Cris Maria Fort Garcés. Clinically trained. Mystically tuned. Deeply human.

I’m a licensed psychotherapist, somatic practitioner, expressive arts therapist, and first-generation kid of immigrants with a strong connection to nature, creativity, and embodied ways of knowing. I work with people who feel deeply, think expansively, and often sense that traditional talk therapy hasn’t fully met them.

My work lives at the intersection of body, creativity, and the natural world. I blend clinical depth with intuitive, ritual, and expressive practices to support clients moving through grief, transition, identity shifts, creative block, and nervous system overwhelm.

Eco Art Therapy is one of the primary ways I help clients reconnect with parts of themselves that have been muted, exiled, or waiting for a different kind of doorway back in. Through image, sensation, symbol, and relationship, we create space for emotions to move, meaning to emerge, and self-trust to rebuild.

I bring warmth, attunement, and nearly two decades of experience into this work. Sessions are collaborative, grounded, and paced with care, honoring both your sensitivity and your resilience.

What topics can we explore in art therapy sessions?

  • Boundaries, self-expression, and inner voice

Tips and resources for getting the most out of art therapy

  • Let go of outcome; focus on sensation and process
  • Stay curious about what emerges
  • Remember: the process is the therapy

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What percentage of people benefit from art therapy?

People benefit in different ways, and outcomes vary, but research and clinical experience consistently show that expressive therapies support emotional regulation, trauma processing, and self-awareness, especially for those who feel stuck with words alone.

  • What are the goals of art therapy?

The goal isn’t to make art, it’s to support expression, regulation, insight, and integration. Art becomes a pathway for feelings to move, meanings to emerge, and inner experience to be met with care.

  • Is art therapy scientifically proven to be effective?

Yes. Art therapy is supported by research showing benefits for trauma recovery, emotional processing, stress reduction, and mental health across diverse populations.

  • How is art therapy different from traditional talk therapy?

Talk therapy works primarily through language. Art therapy adds another channel, image, sensation, and symbol, allowing the body and unconscious to participate directly in the healing process.

  • Can art therapy be done online?

Yes. Eco Art Therapy adapts well to virtual sessions when it’s held with intention and structure. We work together in real time, using simple creative prompts and materials so the process stays embodied, relational, and grounded. One benefit of virtual sessions is that you also have access to your own environment, objects in your home, yard, or nearby natural spaces can become part of the creative and symbolic process in ways that feel organic and personal.
