Therapist in Kingston, NY | Somatic, Art & Gestalt Therapy

I built Creative Now Therapy for the healers, therapists, and soul seekers who have already done the work and still feel the gap between what they know and how they actually live. I offer virtual therapy rooted in somatic practice, shadow work, and the kind of mystical depth that most clinical spaces do not know how to hold. If you have outgrown the tools that used to help and something in you is asking for more, this is where I want to meet you.
Kingston has long drawn the kind of people who do not fit neatly anywhere else. From the centuries-old stone lanes of the Stockade District to the gallery-lined waterfront of the Rondout, this city carries a creative and quietly mystical energy that I recognize immediately. Herbalists and therapists and artists share the same Broadway sidewalk. Woodstock is twenty minutes west. The Catskills rise behind it all and the Hudson moves past wide and unhurried, the way certain kinds of healing move too.
And still, even here in a community built for depth, there is a particular exhaustion that goes unwitnessed. The holding. The showing up. The knowing better and still not being able to find the floor beneath your own grief. I work with the people who carry that. A therapist in Kingston, NY who brings the nervous system and the sacred into the same room, who does not ask you to choose between your clinical training and your tarot deck, between your sensitivity and your credibility. You do not have to leave any part of yourself at the door here. That is the whole point.

Here’s what our work might look like:

We Begin in the Real Moment

We don’t have to dig through your entire history to start healing,  we begin with what’s happening right now: your breath, your posture, the tightness in your throat, the image you can’t shake.

We Drop Into the Body (and the Beyond)

Together, we drop in slowly and intentionally, tracking sensation, emotion, and the symbolic language of your body. We name what’s been exiled, what’s been performing, and what’s quietly asking to be witnessed.

We Unwind Shame, Self-Attack, and Old Survival Roles

Your body holds the places where you learned to shrink, overgive, or turn against yourself. We track these patterns with compassion until they soften, loosen, and lose authority.

We Integrate the Work Into How You Live, Love, and Lead

Your insights don’t stay in the room, they become embodied. You speak up without collapsing, rest without guilt, show up without masking, and move through your days with more presence and fewer spirals.

Maybe the journaling helped for a while. The breathwork opened something real. The ceremony cracked you open and then life closed back around it, and your body went right back to bracing. Not because the tools failed. Because the ache lives somewhere the tools were not built to reach. That is where I work. In somatic therapy, I track what your body is already doing in the room, the held breath before a hard conversation, the belly that tightens before a boundary needs to be named, the eyes that go somewhere else right when something true wants to be said. These are not symptoms. They are a language. Once we learn to listen to it together, things begin to shift from the inside out rather than from the top down. I offer this work virtually across New York State. What moves over time is not just the tension in the body. It is the whole story underneath it, the one your nervous system has been carrying since long before you had words for it. My intention is not to regulate you. It is to help you come home.

Some of what lives in the body never got words. It arrived before language developed, or it was shut down before speaking felt safe, or it simply refuses to become a sentence no matter how many sessions have circled it. That is not a failure. That is an invitation into a different kind of language altogether, and I want to go there with you. In art therapy sessions, I guide the creative process as a way of reaching what talking has not been able to touch. Something in the hands knows what the mind has been quietly protecting. When we let it move, things surface that years of conversation have been approaching without quite arriving. The surprise of it is real. The release of it is real. No artistic background is needed. No identity as a maker, no comfort with materials. Only a willingness to let something emerge that thinking alone could not produce. What arrives through that space tends to be older and truer than anything that had a name before we started.

Most healing asks us to look backward. In gestalt therapy, I am far more interested in what is alive right now. In this breath. In the way your body just shifted. In the quality of the silence that just passed between us. Because your pattern is not only in the past. It is here, in how you inhabit this conversation, in what happens in your body right before something true is about to be said. I bring that process into the foreground. We work with what is actually moving rather than what the mind has already decided it means. The posture. The pause. The moment of genuine contact that almost happened and then did not. All of it belongs in the room with us. Over time, this quality of present-moment honesty starts to migrate into the rest of your life. Your body begins to trust what it notices. The old reflexes start to loosen. What remains is the experience of actually being here, which, I have come to believe, is what we were looking for all along.

The parts of you that have received the most energy in hiding tend to be carrying the most life. Shadow work is how I help you turn toward those parts, not to judge or fix them but to recover what got buried alongside them. The creativity that felt too wild. The grief that was too large to be witnessed. The power that had to be softened in order to be loved. This is not excavation for its own sake. It is retrieval. It is the experience of meeting yourself more honestly than you have before, not just the version you learned to present but the full, unedited truth of who you actually are underneath the roles you inherited. For those in Kingston who hold space for others and cannot afford to be seen as unsteady in their daily lives, I want to offer this: composure is not required here. What I ask for is only the willingness to let what has been kept quiet begin, finally, to speak.

Begin therapy in Kingston and come home to yourself

I hold virtual sessions for clients across New York State, with deep roots in the Ulster County communities I call home. If you are in Kingston, Woodstock, New Paltz, Saugerties, or Rhinebeck, I want to hear from you. Because my sessions are held online, the space meets you wherever you feel most yourself, whether that is a quiet room in the Stockade District or a farmhouse morning in the shadow of the Catskills.

What clients say...

Five black stars aligned in a row on a white background

When I first met Cris, I was at a moment in my life where I was unsure of every possible direction. All of my decisions were based on fear and a recent change in my health had me wondering what kind of life I would have and holy crap I'm going to die. Being in front of Cris's intellect, warmth and grace literally gave me strength I didn't know was there and the assurance of my ability to navigate conflict with grace and evenness. A truly gifted guide and stellar human being.

Cris has been integral to my growth. She is incredibly kind, understanding, and supportive, while also challenging me to face things I may have been ignoring/dismissing. I’m really grateful to have been able to work with her.

Cris is a wonderful therapist. As a pediatrician, I was prone to over-thinking. She has helped me to work through my thoughts and to be in tune with my body.

hi i'm crisCristina Maria Fort Garcés-Somatic Therapist & Nervous System Healing

I am a licensed psychotherapist, somatic guide, and mystical practitioner offering virtual therapy across New York State, including Kingston and the wider Hudson Valley. I have spent nearly twenty years in clinical rooms and a lifetime in sacred ones, and I have never been interested in keeping those two worlds apart. I work with the deep feelers, the burnt-out healers, and the spiritually cracked-open who have outgrown ordinary therapy and are ready for something that honors all of who they are. Not everything that aches in you needs fixing. Some parts are asking to be seen, remembered, and reclaimed.
