The Spark: Finding the Fire of Aries Inside Your Nervous System

Aries Season: The Fire Already Living in Your Body

Aries season 2026 has passed, but the fire lives in your chart. In your body. Anytime you feel that pre-movement pressure, come back here.

If you're new here, welcome. These essay's come out once a month and they live at the intersection of astrology, somatics, and the strange, embodied experience of being a human being right now.

The short version: your body is always in conversation with the world around you. This newsletter is just a translation.

Something in you has been trying to start something. Probably several somethings.

The last couple of weeks I've noticed that there are red buds just everywhere. On branches that looked completely dead a few weeks ago. The trees didn't wait until they felt ready, they just started.

That's Aries.

Not the Aries in your birth chart, I'll get there, but Aries as a living thing. As the season itself. As nature doing what it always does in the spring, whether we're paying attention or not: igniting, birthing itself.

Here's what I want you to understand before anything else, especially if you're new to astrology, or if you opened this email thinking, I'm not an Aries, why is this for me?

You don't have to be an Aries to feel Aries.

You are a whole chart. Not just your sun sign. You are twelve signs, twelve houses, a whole living map of energy. And Aries lives somewhere in that map. It governs one of your houses, one area of your life. Where there are planets transiting through that space right now, you're feeling it. Where there aren't, you're still feeling it, because the season is in your body, in the light changing, in the red buds on the trees outside your window.

You cannot escape Aries.

And why would you want to - it’s so enlivening.

What Aries Actually Is (In Your Body, Not Just Your Chart)

Aries is Cardinal Fire.

If you're not a fire sign, that combination might not mean much yet.

Cardinal means initiating, the energy that starts something, breaks ground, doesn't wait for consensus. Aries fire is the spark, not the sustained flame (Leo), not the spreading heat of the coals (Sag), but the ignition point. The very first catch.

That red bud on the tree? That's it. That's the whole thing.

In your body, Aries lives at the top of the head. The crown, the eyes, the brain, the synapses firing before a single thought has formed. It's pre-verbal. It's pure ignition. It's the moment just before you know what you want to do.

That's Aries.

I've been feeling it this week in a very specific way. Working on projects, including this newsletter, and noticing that my head gets loud. Alive. There's a pressure that builds, and it's not bad, it's actually exciting. But I can't live there all day or I won't sleep. My system needs to move the energy through, not just hold it.

This is the part nobody talks about: Aries energy is not a problem to solve. The activation is a gift. The question is just, what do you do with it so it moves through you instead of staying in you?

Why You're Probably Feeling This Even If You Don't Know Why

Even if you haven't looked at your birth chart in years. Even if you don't know what house Aries rules for you. Even if you're reading this thinking, I don't feel anything, I just feel tired...

The season is in your body.

Longer days. More light. The air changing. Bird sounds returning. Shoots coming up through dirt. This isn't abstract, nature creates felt experience. It impacts your mood, your energy, what your body wants to do. Something in you might be itching to begin. Maybe you don't even know what yet.

That is not random.

That is Aries energy moving through your system via the most ancient and reliable channel available: the living world around you.

You don't need a birth chart for this. You just need a window.

The Gift and The Trap

Aries energy is extraordinary. It's also the energy most likely to tip into overwhelm if it doesn't have somewhere to go.

Maybe the list is getting longer. Maybe you've started the newsletter, the project, the closet reorganization, the new morning routine, the plan to finally learn Portuguese, all in the same week. And nothing's getting finished. And at some point it might start to feel like a discipline problem. Like something is wrong with you.

It's probably not that.

It's more likely what happens when the spark has nowhere to land.

Mars, the planet that rules Aries, is Hot and Dry in classical elemental terms. Hot energy needs movement. Directed movement. Without it, it doesn't sit quietly. It builds. It might be keeping you up at night, not with thoughts exactly, but with a restlessness that doesn't have a name yet. A feeling that you should be doing something, even when there's nothing left to do.

Aries season isn't asking you to do more.

It's asking you to move the energy with intention, so it stops accumulating in your body.

Practices for Working With Aries Fire

Aries energy without direction is just... too much. Beautiful, alive, restless, and completely exhausting by 3pm. These three practices are small. That's intentional. Aries likes initiation, not epic commitments.

1. Meet the Spark (Morning)

At least once before this season ends: wake up early. Go to a window, or better yet, outside. Face east.

Watch the light come.

Aries is an eastern sign, it rises with the sun, it is the return of the light. Every sunrise is a miniature Vernal Equinox. That white-gold quality before the sun fully clears the horizon, the colors that exist for maybe four minutes before the day gets ordinary, that's Aries before it becomes anything else. Pure ignition. The spark before the flame.

Let it enter through your eyes. Through the top of your head.

Notice what happens up there when you do. Is there a pressure? A restlessness that wasn't there a moment ago? A sense that something in you just... woke up? That's the energy meeting you. You're not doing anything complicated, you're just meeting it consciously, before it meets you sideways somewhere in the middle of your day.

2. Give the Fire a Direction (Before You Move)

Here's something most people don't know about Aries: it comes directly out of Pisces.

In the wheel of the zodiac, Pisces is the sign just before, the dream-field, the formless, the primordial womb of what hasn't yet become anything. Pisces is pure vision, pure potential, pure dissolution into the everything before identity forms. And then... Aries. The first breath. The spark catching. The I am.

Which means every Aries impulse, every urge to start, to move, to initiate, is carrying something with it. It just came from the formless. It's still warm from the dream-field.

When we launch into action without pausing to ask what is this actually for, we scatter that energy. We start everything and finish nothing and wonder why we're exhausted.

The practice is simple:

Before you begin something, the project, the email, the day, place your hands on your chest or your belly. Take one slow breath. And ask: what do I want this to serve?

Not a five-year plan. Not a mission statement. Just a felt sense of direction. Something that points the fire somewhere true.

Even ten seconds of this changes the quality of what you initiate. You're not just acting, you're acting from intention.

3. Find Your Balance (Evening): Aries has an opposite sign: Libra.

Where Aries is pure self, I begin, I move, I assert, Libra is pure relationship. We consider, we balance, we listen. They share an axis: Aries opens the light at the Spring Equinox, Libra opens the dark at the Autumn Equinox. Two sides of the same scale. And in astrology, when a sign is out of balance, we look to its opposite for what's missing.

Libra's time of day is sunset. So the practice: stop at dusk. Even for five minutes.

Open a window. Step outside. Let the quality of the light shift on your face. This is the moment of equal light and dark in the daily cycle, Aries and Libra, briefly, in the same breath.

Ask yourself one question: what did I initiate today, and what did I receive?

Not to judge the balance. Just to notice it. Aries asks you to move. Libra asks you to pause long enough to feel what the movement is doing, to you, and to the people around you.

The lower back and hips are Libra's body territory. If yours are tight at the end of the day, that's not random. Slow hip-opening movement, a hand on the lower back, even just a few deep breaths facing west, that's Libra coming back online.

Taurus Is Coming...

These essays move with the seasons, astrology is ecological. Each month, we'll look at the sign the sun is moving through, what it's asking of your body, your nervous system, your life. The planets, the houses, the practices. Practical and grounded, every time.

Taurus arrives April 20th. If Aries is the spark, Taurus is what happens the morning after, slower, sensory, interested in what's actually here rather than what could be. More on that soon. The next newsletter comes out early in the season, so you'll have it when it's useful.

And we'll keep returning to this: your chart isn't a personality test. It's a map of energies that are real, that live in your body, that are expressed in the world around you, whether or not you believe in astrology.

You're already feeling it.

We're just learning the language together.

If you got to the end of this and thought "okay but now what?" that's the Aries in you.

It wants to move.

Here's where to take it: If you're ready to go deeper, I have a few spots open in my practice right now. We work somatically, with the spiritual tools you've already been gathering, the chart, the cards, the practices you keep starting and not quite finishing. We don't skip the part that's still buzzing.
